KARACHI, June 11: The Expo Centre in Gulshan-i-Iqbal buzzed with shopping enthusiasts who turned up in their thousands on Saturday. Shoppers patiently queued up in front of the metal detectors installed near the gate of the Expo Centre after parking their vehicles in a makeshift car park near the building.

“All about lifestyles,” a three-day exhibition organized by the Dawn Group of Newspapers, opened on Friday afternoon. This is the seventh “All about lifestyles” exhibition organized by the group.

Shabnum Abdullah of the Print Media Consultants, the firm that organized and managed the event, said that exhibitors were most pleased with the turnout at the Expo Centre.

At least 150 exhibitors put up 145 stalls in all the four halls of the Expo Centre.

“Gulshan-i-Iqbal is home to Karachi’s upper middle class. Little wonder, then, that so many shoppers turn up and they have the purchasing power to buy the consumer goods being sold here,” she explained.

Walking out of the building, a woman, Shaheen Kausar, said she looked forward to shopping at the “All about lifestyles” exhibition. “I live in an apartment block across the road from here. I buy electronic appliances from here, because I don’t have to pay a large sum of money transporting them home. In any case, it’s fun shopping here,” she said.

Children had a great time at the pets’ show where animal lovers had brought their pets.
