LAHORE, June 9: The Lahore High Court on Thursday dismissed a writ petition with the observation that superior courts could not interfere in the matter of government jobs which was a policy matter. The court through a judgment in a petition moved by Shaista Asad of Gujranwala also observed that recruitment in government departments was made or a ban on jobs imposed as per a policy which was evolved under various circumstances which could be best understood by the government and courts were not competent to issue writs to departments in this regard.
The court also held that a government job was not a right as appointments against vacancies were made on merit and an applicant or a petitioner was not in a position to establish his or her merit.
The petitioner had applied for a post in BPS-17 and after she moved the application, the Punjab government imposed a ban on recruitment. She sought a writ against the Punjab government for accommodating her against the post.
