PESHAWAR, June 8: Students of the University of Engineering and Technology boycotted their classes and staged demonstrations on Wednesday to protest against cancellation of summer vacation and introduction of semester system in the university. The students boycotted classes for the third consecutive day and staged a demonstration at the campus to pressure the university administration to review the decisions.

A police contingent was deployed in the university to prevent the students from turning violent. The students claimed that police had arrested seven of their colleagues during the peaceful demonstration, but police denied the charge.

Later, the protesting students reached the Peshawar Press Club and held a demonstration there. They raised slogans and waved placards inscribed with slogans demanding removal of the vice-chancellor, registrar and provost of the university.

They vowed to continue boycott of classes till the acceptance of their demands.
