ISLAMABAD, June 8: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Nazim Hussain Siddiqui has cautioned judges to keep in mind that they too are being judged by the world. “Indeed, the judges perform the most difficult task of judging the world, that is to say, judging men and matters. Let the judges not forget that they are also judged by the world,” he told a full court reference held on Wednesday to honour posthumously two judges and a senior advocate of the Supreme Court.

By worldly standards, the chief justice observed, those who got an opportunity to occupy exalted positions were lucky but in reality lucky were those who rose above worldly temptations and performed functions and duties of their assignment with dedication, commitment, hard work and sincerity of purpose.

Lucky are those who are not made to offer explanation of their actions, he emphasized.

The ceremony was organized at the Supreme Court to pay homage to the late Justice Salahuddin Ahmed, the late Justice Ghulam Mujaddad Mirza and the late Raja Muhammad Anwar, a senior lawyer of the apex court.

The chief justice said the work of a judge was exposed to continuous scrutiny and whatever he or she wrote was there for all times to come.

If a judge has done something good, it will be applauded but if he has done something bad it will be condemned perpetually, Justice Siddiqui warned.

Paying homage to the late judges, he said the judgments delivered by them were now part of the judicial record from which both lawyers as well as judges would benefit.
