KARACHI: An official of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) police was shot dead in a suspected targeted attack in Gulbahar area on Monday, according to police.

They added that as sub-inspector Azam Khan came out of his home in Firdous Colony, armed pillion riders already waiting there opened fire on him and fled. He sustained a single bullet wound on his chest and died on the spot. Later on, the body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital to fulfil legal formalities.

“It appeared to be a targeted killing incident,” opined Central SSP Irfan Ali Baloch.

Quoting the victim’s son, the senior officer said that workers of a certain political party had asked his father to cast a vote in favour of their candidate during the recently held general elections but all family members did not cast a vote in favour of any candidate.

However, SSP Baloch said that the investigation was still at a preliminary stage and nothing concrete could be said about the possible motive of the murder at this stage.
