KARACHI: Sindh Inspector General of Police Amjad Javed Saleemi has suspended five traffic police officers for their alleged involvement in corruption and ordered an inquiry against them by a recently set-up cell, said a police spokesperson on Sunday.

The provincial police chief took this decision after receiving a report from the DIG traffic Karachi to this effect.

The officers who were immediately suspended over their alleged involvement in corruption included DSP Gulzar-i-Hijri Jafar Abbas, DSP traffic Malir district Ameen ur Rehman, Sub-Inspector Muhammad Saeed Reader to DSP Gulzar-e-Hijri and two constables. The IGP has ordered inquiry against them, which will be conducted by Internal Accountability Branch (IAB) that has been established recently to hold policemen accountable over allegations of corruption and misuse of powers, etc.

‘Two MQM-L street criminals held’

The Pakistan Rangers Sindh on Sunday claimed to have arrested three suspects, including two activists of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London for their alleged involvement in street crimes, said the spokesperson.

The paramilitary force carried out raids in Landhi and Rizvia Society and arrested two suspects Asim and Zahid Husain, respectively. “Both the held suspects were affiliated with MQM-L. They were involved in street crimes and others,” the Rangers official claimed.

Separately, the paramilitary personnel apprehended a suspect, Mohammed Naveed, in Rizvia Society who was alleged involved in drugs business.

Meanwhile, the Rangers Sindh carried out an operation along with police and the irrigation department officials in Qambar-Shahdadkot district against water theft.

During the operation, illegal water connections at 13 spots were disconnected.
