KARACHI: Inspector General of Police, Sindh, Amjad Javed Saleemi on Thursday established a branch led by an additional inspector general of police (AIG) and comprising two senior police officers from each range of Sindh for accountability of policemen on charges of corruption, misuse of powers etc.

To be called Internal Police Accountability Branch (IAB), it has been established at the Central Police Office in Karachi. This branch would work under the chairmanship of the Sindh IG while the AIG would do its monitoring.

The provincial police chief on Thursday also nominated AIG Dr Aftab Pathan as head of the newly established branch.

Two senior superintendents of police will be selected from each range of Sindh for IAB. DIG Zulfiqar Larik will also assist it.

IAB has been tasked with conducting inquiries against policemen over allegations of corruption, misuse of powers and other complaints in a transparent manner and furnish its reports before the police chief for action. Furthermore, IAB will be answerable to the IGP.
