PESHAWAR, June 7: NWFP police chief Raffat Pasha on Monday directed the Kohistan police to use all available resources and ensure early recovery of a girl of Malakand Agency who was kidnapped a few days ago. The directives were issued in a circular issued from the Central Police Office.
A delegation of Sakha Kot town of Malakand Agency, led by NWFP Chief Minister’s Adviser Fazlur Rehman Madani met Mr Pasha at his office and sought his help for early recovery of the girl.
The inspector-general of police informed the delegation that the chief minister and the governor had issued directives to him for safe recovery of the girl.
He said local police had registered a case on the report of the girl’s father and arrested two brothers of the accused and five other people. However, two suspects had obtained bail before arrest, he said.
The delegation alleged that a member of the Kohistan jirga was supporting the accused.
The IG assured the delegation that police would ensure recovery of the girl at all costs.
DEMONSTRATION: City rickshaw drivers staged a protest demonstration against the traffic police and called upon the NWFP government to restrain the police from taking “illegal” measures against them.
The demonstration was organized on Saturday by the New Ittefaq Rickshaw Action Workers Union outside the Peshawar Press Club to highlight the plight of rickshaw drivers.
The protesters, including those belonging to Kohat, carried banners and chanted slogans against the traffic police.
