KARACHI, June 7: Experts at a seminar stressed vaccination for prevention of Variole Zoster (chickenpox) and Herpes Zoster, which were common amongst children of school-going age. The seminar on “Variole Zoster and Herpes Zoster” was organized by the College of Family Medicine, Pakistan, and the Pakistan Medical Association at PMA House on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Naseem Salahuddin discussed the causes, prevalence, complication, treatment of these diseases and emphasized on its prevention. She said, “Developed countries have adopted vaccine for their prevention and we should also adopt such ways although cost of vaccine is high but calculating risk of developing complications from pneumonia to herpes zoster and involvement of various problems of skin, eye, ENT and malformation of child.”

Dr Badar Dhanani dealt the subject in detail with practical demonstration of collection of herpes zoster slides and explained role of various virus and damages caused by it. The seminar was attended by over 100 general practitioners and family physicians. —PPI
