I WANT to share a good experience with Dawn’s readers. About 10 years ago I bought a shawl from a Swat stall at a national handicraft show held at the Expo Centre. The quality of this shawl was so good that I wanted another shawl from the same outlet. I had saved the stall holder’s card and I decided to call him.

Wonder of wonders, he answered. He sent me pictures of his shawls for me to make a selection. I checked with a courier service for the cost of transport from Swat to Karachi.

The shawl maker, however, told me his preferred mode of payment was through a mobile phone service money forwarding app.

He then called to give me the tracking number and asked me to send the money. He trusted me, because we both knew that once the shawls were on their way he could not stop me from backing out of paying. Not only that, he charged only half of what I had been expecting as the courier fee. The next morning I got the shawls at my doorstep!

A gentleman living in a small village about 15 kms from Mingora has passed with flying colours giving a lesson in honesty and trust.
