LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain will contest by-poll from Talagang, the party says.

Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi is vacating NA-65, Talagang, and NA-69, Gujrat, seats and retain the provincial seat to be able to become Punjab Assembly speaker. Moonis Elahi is likely to contest NA-65.

Former MNA Sardar Mumtaz Tamman on Saturday called on the Chaudhrys at their Gulberg residence and asked Shujaat to contest NA-65. In the July 25 polls there had been an understanding between Mr Tamman and Mr Elahi that if the latter vacated this seat the former would contest it.

“It is my wish that Chaudhry Shujaat contests this seat as he should be in parliament to play his role being a national leader,” Mr Tamman said.

Chaudhry Shujaat said Mr Tamman fully supported Pervaiz Elahi and ensured his victory.

“I am thankful to him for his gesture and after getting elected from Talagang I will come up to the expectations of the area people,” he said.
