PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority on Thursday conducted an operation inside Gad Mandi at Chargano Chowk where a vehicle carrying 300 virally-infected chickens was impounded.

A spokesman for the authority said that the virally-infected chickens were recovered during a raid conducted by a team of officials led by assistant director Aneela Mahboob. He said that the vehicle was also impounded.

Referring to a report of director technical, Dr Abdul Sattar, he said that the chickens were seized as they were not in healthy condition and could not be consumed.

In another raid at a cottage industry in Jhagra area of Peshawar, 1,500 kilogrammes of substandard nimko and 30 kilogrammes of non-food grade colours were seized and the factory was sealed. Another team sealed a hotel, school canteen, tuck shop and a general store for selling substandard items in Abbottabad.
