GUJRANWALA, June 6: Three proclaimed offenders were killed while as many were arrested on Monday following an encounter in Tajpura, Garjakh. Police received information that some POs were present in the house of their relative subedar Feroze Khan (retired). With heavy contingents of police and Elite Force, the law enforcers conducted a raid there and encircled the locality and directed the outlaws to surrender. But, outlaws opened fire on police. The police also retaliated and the shootout continued for some two hours.
In the meantime, the POs broke the wall of an adjacent house owned by a widow and took refuge there. But the police continued firing and also fired teargas shells, killing three POs instantly. The police also arrested their three accomplices who were identified as Muhammad Sabir, Mahmood Ahmed and Maqsood alias Sian. PO Sabir sustained bullet injuries. Among the killed POs, two were identified as Wasim alias Cheema Paharia and Azeem alias Pappu Karachiwala while the identity of the third could not be established so far.
As a result of excessive shelling, the widow’s house caught fire. The inmates rushed out of the house and saved their lives. The subedar (retired) also surrendered to the police.
The POs were wanted in various cases of heinous crime. While deceased PO, Wasim, was also involved in the killing of Baghbanpura ASI Qudratullah.
The police are looking into the matter.
Robbery: Four dacoits on Monday took away Rs1.3 million from three employees of a plastic industry and injured them on resistance on GT Road.
Reports said plastic industry general-manager Imtiaz Ahmad Siddiqui, marketing-manager Saad Hassan Zaidi and driver Muhammad Imran were on their way to the factory after withdrawing the amount from a Faisal Bank’s branch. Near a Toyo industry showroom, the gangsters riding a car intercepted them and took away the amount. They opened fire on them on offering resistance and managed to escape. The injured were rushed to DHQ hospital in a critical condition.
Police have registered a case and are investigating.
Meanwhile, the local chamber of commerce and industry have condemned the incident and expressed grave concern over the deteriorating law and order situation.
