KARACHI, June 6: The heatwave that has currently gripped the city intensified on Monday and pushed temperatures to over 37 degrees Centigrade, making Monday the hottest day of the month. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, temperature on Monday ranged between 37.4 degrees Centigrade and 28 degrees Centigrade. Humidity stood at 60 per cent.

Chief meteorologist Arif Mehmood said searing winds blowing in from the deserts of Balochistan were chiefly responsible for the intensification of the heatwave.

He added that previously the city was receiving winds from the sea which kept the temperature down.

He said it would not rain in the next couple of days, adding that a pre-monsoon rain advisory would be issued by the meteorological department in the third week of June.

According to a Met Office forecast, the maximum temperature on Tuesday would range between 36 degrees Centigrade and 38 degrees centigrade.

HOTTEST AREA: Nawabshah was the hottest area in the country as the highest maximum temperature of 50.5 degrees Centigrade was recorded here on Monday, adds PPI.
