According to City SSP Dr Samiullah Soomro, the murder was planned by the ringleader of one of the gangs still operating in the area over a monetary dispute amounting to over Rs3 million generated through the sale of drugs by gangsters.

The two arrested men were identified as Rashid alias Chikna and Asif Faqir. The police have seized two 9mm pistols from their possession.

According to sources, they told interrogators that they along with their two other accomplices, Anis and Iqbal, gunned down Shakeel on the direction of the ringleader of their gang, Zahid Ladla, because the deceased was not giving Rs3.2m to the gang.
