RAWALPINDI: At least four people were injured during a fight between PML-N and PTI workers near the Kohinoor Mills on Peshawar Road on Thursday.
The injured workers were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital for medical treatment.
According to the police, PTI workers and supporters were taking out a rally on Peshawar Road to celebrate their party’s victory in the general elections of 2018 and were chanting slogans in favour of Imran Khan when PML-N workers and supporters in the public secretariat of ex-MNA Malik Abrar started verbally abusing participants of the rally.
Workers of both parties started pelting stones at each other during which four people were injured.
Talking to media persons, PML-N leaders and workers alleged that a mob of PTI workers attacked the election office of Malik Abrar and beat up his supporters. They said PTI workers had thrown stones and damaged many windows and cars in the process.
City Police Officer Abbas Ahsan told newsmen that there was a clash between workers of the two parties and that their leaders were summoned to the Naseerabad police station for inquiry. Action will be taken against those responsible as per law, he added.
Meanwhile, a case was registered on Thursday against gunmen who had stormed into the PTI election office in Bank Colony Dhamial on Wednesday and opened indiscriminate firing, leaving seven people injured.
The case was lodged with the Saddar Bairooni police station under section 324 of the PPC. However, no arrests were made so far.
Based on a complaint, the police have registered an attempted murder case against the gunmen, including Chaudhry Arbab, and for launching an armed attack on PTI supporters sitting in the election office in Madni Chowk, Bank Colony, Dhamial.
The attack left seven people injured and the 40 or 50 gunmen managed to escape. Efforts are being made to apprehend the attackers.
Separately, a constable who was shot and injured by a gang of robbers in Pirwadhai has died. The funeral prayers of Jamil Satti were held at Police Line Number 1 and were attended by commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Regional Police Officer Fayyaz Dev, City Police Officer Abbas Ahsan and other police officials.
