The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority, on the instructions of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), has told private satellite TV channels to cease and desist from broadcasting recorded footage of public gatherings and addresses made by political parties and candidates.

"As per directives of the ECP, election campaigns or propagation of political parties/candidates should be stopped forthwith," it has notified in a circular.

Not only that, opinion polls and surveys conducted by the channels or through any independent agency are also off the table now that that elections are less than 24 hours away.

Pemra has clarified that the channels and radio stations are free to provide information that can help voters or educate them about everything that will be happening on election day.

Moreover, public should also be motivated to cast their vote and perform their national duty by making democratic process successful. — Pemra
