COLOMBO: Plans are afoot to execute drug traffickers currently in the death row after Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena publicly insisted on Saturday that he will stick to his decision to order the execution of drug traffickers who have continued to be involved in the trade even after their conviction.

Officials sources said: “Steps are currently being taken to appoint a committee of experts from various departments to choose those traffickers who ought to be executed”.

Speaking at a public ceremony in Polanaruwa district, the president said he would summon the heads of the judiciary, prisons and law and order on Tuesday to appoint a committee in this regard.
