KARACHI: A former model was found dead in her apartment near Karachi Gymkhana on Saturday.

Police said the body of Quratul Ain, 38, also known as Annie Ali Khan, was found from her third-floor apartment in Qasr-i-Zainab building.

SSP-South Omar Shahid told Dawn that it appeared that she set her books on fire and died of suffocation.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. Doctors at the health facility said that there were no burn or injury marks on the body.

The SSP said she was living alone in the apartment.

Artillery Maidan SHO Safdar Mashwani said that her neighbours informed the police about smoke emanating from her flat. The police rushed to the spot and found the door locked from inside. They broke the door and found the body.

A source told Dawn she had shifted to the United States after marriage. Later, she separated from her husband and came back to Pakistan. She was living with a female colleague, who is in England these days. Her two brothers also live abroad.

The source said she had contributed to various magazines and recently completed a book, which was yet to be published.
