KARACHI, June 4: Opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro on Saturday accused Chief Minister Dr Arbab Rahim of ‘terrorizing’ the people of Tharparkar by committing grave violations of human rights in that area. In a statement, he said it was strange that Dr Arbab had proudly admitted that he had been made chief minister by military generals. Soon after making the statement, the CM started unleashed a reign of terror by attacking the human rights of the poverty-stricken people of Tharparkar, he claimed.
He warned the police officials who were blindly carrying out the illegal orders of the chief minister not to forget the fate of the former DIG Samiullah Marwat who used to brutalize PPP workers on the orders of Jam Sadiq Ali.
Mr Khuhro demanded immediate release of the Jam Saqi’s wife, as well as Mohan Lal Meghwar, Mir Mohammad Khan Lund and Arbab Murad Ali.
HRCP: HRCP Chairperson Asma Jehangir strongly condemned the ‘open vindictiveness’ shown by the chief minister who publicly threatened HRCP activist Jam Saqi of further victimization, and virtually admitted that Saqi’s arrest was connected with the HRCP’s fact-finding mission led by him to the village of chief minister”.
“To implement the threat, the chief minister got Jam Saqi’s wife and niece arrested,” she said, adding: “This act of vindictiveness can only be condemned in the strongest terms as it shows that Arbab uses Wadera tactics in his office as chief minister.”
Ms Jehangir said that the chief minister’s assertion that HRCP had no authority to verify reports of human rights violations was absurd, and added that the chief minister should acquaint himself better with the role of civil society organizations in nay country.
Demanding immediate release of Jam Saqi’s wife, she said that the CM should address the abysmal human rights record in his home village rather than resorting to a cover up. The HRCP would hold a public demonstration against his excesses, she announced.—PPI
