APROPOS the news report, ‘Girl killed, 15 injured as merry-go-round falls in Askari Park’ (July 16). It’s not known how many parks in the country are using worn-out equipment which is on the verge of collapse. Everybody wants to make quick bucks, disregarding the requirements of quality and safety.

Whenever I go to Patriata, I start thinking whether this joy-ride has ever been inspected for its safety since its installation. I hope the testing and maintenance on this joy-ride is being done on a daily, weekly, six-monthly and annual basis.

I would recommend that the annual maintenance of all joy-rides, if possible, should be done by the representatives of the manufacturers.

If the joy-rides are checked regularly, no accident can take place and the people would feel confident and safe in visiting these parks.
