GUJRAT: Police arrested Gujrat Mayor Haji Nasir Mahmood on Thursday.

The mayor, who is also the district general secretary of the PML-N, was arrested from the lobby of the DC office. Imran Zafar, former MPA and PML-N candidate from PP-31 and a nephew of the mayor, told Dawn his uncle was called by DC Tauseef Dilshad Kathana to attend an official meeting of the district presidents and general secretaries of all political parties. He alleged as soon as his uncle came out after attending the meeting, the police arrested him and shifted him to the Kunjah police station.

He said the police had arrested his uncle without registration of any case. He alleged the authorities wanted to stop party workers from going to Lahore airport to receive Nawaz Sharif.
