PESHAWAR: The Awami National Party workers staged a rally here on Thursday to condemn the Yakatoot area suicide attack.

Also in the day, the death toll from Tuesday’s terrorist attack reached 22 after an injured person passed away at the Lady Reading Hospital.

The Awami National Party rally began in Dabgeri Garden area and ended near the press club building.

Danyal Bilour, son of Awami National Party leader Barrister Haroon Bilour, who was killed in the Yakatoot area attack, led the rally.

Carrying the party’s flags and banners and shouting slogans against terrorists, the protesters demanded strict action against culprits.

Mr Danyal said terrorists couldn’t keep the ANP from its mission through such tactics.

He said he would carry forward the mission of his father and party to serve the people of the province.

Mr Danyal said the ANP workers would continue to follow the philosophy of non-violence, which they had inherited from Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan.

He called for permanent peace in the region.

Protesters later dispersed peacefully.

The Awami National Party has already announced three-day mourning and suspended its election campaign across the country.

Earlier, Awami National Party provincial president Ameer Haider Khan Hoti visited families of the blast victims in the city and offered fateha for the deceased.

He also visited the blast site in Yakatoot.

DEATH TOLL: The death toll from Tuesday suicide attack reached

22 after the death of another injured person at the Lady Reading Hospital here.

A spokesman for the LRH named the deceased as 25-year-old Mohammad Adil.

He said seven victims of the bombing were under treatment at the hospital.

The LRH records show the death of 21 people, while a body was taken to the Khyber Teaching Hospital.
