KOHAT: Two coalminers were killed when a chairlift fell on them in Old Bazidkhel area of Darra Adamkhel on Tuesday.

According to reports, the chairlift was bringing down coal from a mine in a mountain when its chain broke and fell onto the two miners resulting in their instant death. The victims were identified as Auraq Khan and Ismail Khan, residents of Swat.

An official told Dawn that at the time of the incident the lift was full and weighed approximately 300 to 400 kilogrammes. The deceased were taken to their native village in an ambulance

Meanwhile, MMA candidate from NA-32, Seth Gohar Saifullah Khan, was booked in an attempted murder case in the cantonment police station on Tuesday.

The firing incident occurred when rival groups brawled during the election campaign in Ustarzai area.

The victim, a member of a welfare organisation, nominated in the FIR Seth Gohar and two others, Sheharyar and Jehangir, for firing at him when he was performing duty at the watch tower.

However, Mr Gohar immediately got bail-before-arrest from court while the other two fled and went into hiding.
