Post-electoral reforms, the Elections Commission of Pakistan was supposed to be all-powerful and constitutionally autonomous. But it's decision to involve the security forces in the transmission of the election results suggests that it perhaps is not where we expected it to be.

One of Dawn's editorials today expresses disappointment over the ECP move, which it says, could give critics more reasons to question the transparency of the July 25 polls.

"It is discouraging that rather than expanding its control of the process, the ECP has seen fit to involve other entities in an unprecedented manner for certain crucial aspects of the poll process.

The edit further states:

"The ECP should itself clarify why it has deemed it necessary to create a role for security personnel in the transmission of election results from the polling station to the ECP
