GUJRAT, June 2: The Kharian circle police remained deployed the whole day on Thursday on the premises of Kharian tehsil municipal administration offices to prevent the sacked nazim from ‘forcibly’ taking the charge of his post. Reports said that acting Tehsil Nazim Dr Javed Riaz had officially informed the DCO on Wednesday that former tehsil nazim Nadeem Asghar Kaira might try to forcibly take the charge of his post on Thursday which could create a law and order situation.

At this, the DCO directed Kharian DSP Imtiaz Bhali to make arrangements. Complying with the orders, the personnel of the Kharian circle comprising five police stations besieged the TMA offices. However, the former tehsil nazim did not turn up.

The Lahore High Court had recently granted an interim bail to Mr Kaira in a case lodged against him with the Kharian Cantonment police station.

A PPP activist quoted Mr Kaira as saying that the LHC had not only granted him the pre-arrest bail but also ordered his reinstatement.

Quoting him further, he said that Mr Kaira had given copies of the order to all relevant authorities for information.

On the other hand, a source quoted the acting tehsil nazim as saying that Mr Kaira had not been reinstated.

DISPOSED OF: Subordinate courts had disposed of 36 murder cases in the month of May.

This was stated by Gujrat district and sessions judge Ali Hasan Rizvi while talking to reporters here on Thursday.

He said the Lahore High Court had given a direction to subordinate courts to accelerate hearing of cases, particularly the murder cases.

He said that he himself had disposed of 10 murder cases in the month which was a record. Of the total 10 cases, he awarded death sentence in three cases, life-term in as many cases and acquitted the accused in four cases for lack of evidence.

Mr Rizvi said that six additional district and sessions judges had disposed of 26 murder cases. He said that subordinate courts had disposed of 2,034 different cases during the period.

SHOOTS SISTER: A man shot dead his sister and injured seriously his mother on Thursday on suspicion in Nagarianwala village, Kunjah.

Nadeem opened fire on his sister Zakia and mother Sughran. As a result, Zakia died on the spot while his mother sustained serious injuries. She was admitted to a nearby hospital. Kunjah police have registered a case against the absconding accused.
