KARACHI, June 2: Chief of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Altaf Hussain has urged leaders of Sunni and Shia sects to foil the conspiracy of plunging the country into a new bloodbath. In a statement issued on Thursday, he deplored the recent incidents of violence in Karachi and asked the government to arrest and punish those responsible for the violence.

He urged religious leaders to restrain emotions of their followers to maintain calm in the city.

Meanwhile, members of the MQM’s coordination committee and Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui visited the Madinatul Ilm mosque, KFC restaurant and petrol pump near Nipa Chowrangi, the scene of suicide bomb attack and the ensuing mob attacks, on Thursday.
