PESHAWAR: An improvised explosive device went off with a bang near the residence of an independent candidate contesting elections on the National Assembly constituency NA-44 (Khyber tribal district), police said, adding no one was injured in the blast.

Peshawar’s SSP Operations Javed Iqbal said the device exploded near the hujra of Bahadur Khan Afridi Barqambarkhel in the Hayatabad area. Bahadur Khan’s son, Maroof Khan, is contesting elections as an independent candidate for NA-44 seat. SSP Iqbal said that initial investigation revealed that Bahadur Khan’s family had been receiving threatening calls from an Afghanistan’s phone number for the last few days.
