ISLAMABAD, June 1: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Education on Wednesday directed the Higher Education Commission and the Punjab education department to hold an impartial inquiry into the allegations of corruption against the vice-chancellor of Islamia University, Bahawalpur. According to a press release, the committee met here under the chairmanship of MNA Tehmina Dasti and issued the directive after discussing a calling attention notice moved by MNA Mohammad Farooq Azam Malik.

The mover provided documents to the committee to substantiate the allegations of corruption and nepotism against the vice-chancellor.

The standing committee meeting was attended by MNAs Shakeela Khanum Rashid, Maulana Syed Nek Zaman, Dr Farida Ahmad, Prof Asiya Azam, Prof Khalid Wahab, Syed Asad Murtaza Gillani, Nafisa Munawar Raja, Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, Sahibzada Mian Jalil Ahmed Sharqpuri, Punjab education secretary and representatives of the HEC.
