FAISALABAD, June 1: A nine-year-old student was allegedly tortured by his teacher over a minor mistake here on Wednesday at Government High School No.2, Samundri. Reports said Muhammad Sufian, a class III student, was beaten up by Muhammad Arif. Some of the teachers tried to stop his colleague but he refused to listen to anyone.
On receiving information, parents of Sufian rushed to the school and took him to hospital. The medico-legal certificate confirmed the torture and marked 21 injuries on his back, neck and shoulders.
Sufian’s father Malik Arif told this correspondent that he would lodge a complaint with the Punjab chief minister against the teacher for violating the government rules.
When contacted by phone, school headmaster Muhammad Ataullah said teachers used to slap and punish students during class timing for their ‘better future.’
To a question, he said, “There is no need for an inquiry as it is a routine matter in rural schools.”
JI RALLY: Scores of Jamaat-i-Islami activists took out a protest rally here on Wednesday against what they termed target killing of their leader in Karachi.
The protesters were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the government and poor law and order situation in the country.
They alleged that the government was playing in the hands of a particular political party in Sindh to prolong its rule.
Tight security arrangements have been made by the police during the rally to avert any untoward incident.
STRIKE CONTINUES: The Faisalabad Telecommunication Region staff observed a complete strike on the third consecutive day on Wednesday against the government plan to privatize the PTCL.
None of the lower staffers, linemen, technicians or employees working in offices entertained any complaint.
They staged protest demonstrations in telephone exchanges of People’s Colony, Sargodha Road, Lahore Road, Jhang Road and Chiniot Bazaar.
They locked their offices and exchanges and chanted slogans against the government and the PTCL management.
A protest meeting was also held in the central exchange on the second day during which office-bearers of the PTCL local action committee spoke.
