KARACHI, June 1: Sindh Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman on Wednesday asked the DCOs of all districts to ensure provision of water in their respective districts, in collaboration with respective departments including KWSB and WASA. He was speaking at the briefing session of local government department at New Sindh Secretariat.

Additional Chief Secretary (Local Government) Muhammad Saleem Khan briefed the chief secretary about functions of local government department with specific reference to devolution plan and functioning of 23 districts, including 22 district governments and one city district government, in the province, in accordance with the Sindh Local Government Ordinance.

It was pointed out in the briefing that K-III water project would facilitate Karachiites with enhanced water supply of 100 million gallons water daily. The chief secretary desired timely accomplishment of the project.

He expressed concern over public complaints and stressed the need for ascertaining water supply to people by utilizing generators and other alternate means in case of power shutdown.

Meanwhile, another meeting chaired by the chief secretary reviewed Jacobabad Water Supply Scheme Phase-VI.

The meeting decided that execution of the project should be accorded by DCO Jacobabad in consultation with the local government department. A monitoring committee was formed for the scheme comprising Taluka Nazim Jacobabad and Superintendent Engineer Public Health Department.

Additional Chief Secretary Ghulam Sarwar Khero, M Saleem Khan, DCO Jacobabad Shamsuddin Soomro, Taluka Nazim Jacobabad Mumtaz Hussain, representative 5 Corps HQs Lt Col Waqar and secretaries of concerned departments attended the meeting. —PPI
