Rs494.2bn collected in July-May

ISLAMABAD, June 1: The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) collected Rs494.2 billion revenue during the 11 months (July-May) of the current fiscal year as against the target of Rs502.4 billion, falling short of the target by 1.63 per cent. Provisional figures released by the CBR on Wednesday showed that revenue collection registered an overall growth of 12.2 per cent this year, when compared with the last year collection of Rs440.531 billion during the same period.

On monthly basis, the revenue collection remained short of target by 25.94 per cent as it stood at Rs43.1 billion in May as against the target of Rs58.2 billion during the same period. An official announcement of the CBR said that board expected that collection would increase when the revenue figures for May would be finalized in the next few days.

Tax wise break up showed that CBR collected Rs142.4 billion in July-May against the target of Rs147.5 billion, showing a decrease of 3.45 per cent. The overall sales tax collection during the first eleven months reached to Rs206.8 billion this year as against the target of Rs207.5 billion set for the same period, indicating a decline of 0.33 per cent.

Collection under customs duties went up to Rs98.8bn during the period under review as against the target of Rs91.5bn, giving a growth of 8.08 per cent. Similarly, the central excise duty collection increased by 9.2 per cent to Rs46.1bn against the target of Rs42.2bn for the same period.
