LAHORE: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Syed Kaleem Imam has directed regional, city and district police officers to implement elections commission’s code of conduct and take prompt action against the violators.

He was addressing regional, city and district police heads through video link at Central Police Office on Tuesday.

He said that it was police’s responsibility to ensure transparent and peaceful elections and to achieve the goals, regional and district police officers should constitute security plans of the polling day.

He added that elections codes devised by the Election Commission of Pakistan should be followed strictly and ensured in any case and prompt action should be taken against the persons who violate rules and regulations.

The IGP also said strict action would also be taken against any police officer or official found partial in the process.

He said election candidates should be provided security and also resources should be utilised to make security arrangements for processions, corner meetings and other political congregations.

He also directed the officers to visit police stations and that monitoring of exit and entering points be ensured strictly.

He added the show of weapons and aerial firing would be strictly forbidden in the election campaign and action without discrimination would be taken against those who violate the law.

He said the police had no political affiliation and our job was to conduct free and fair elections by providing special security measures for voters and sensitive polling stations on the polling day.

He said that special plan should be laid for the patrolling forces including dolphin, PERU, and other patrolling forces.
