Elections are less than a month away and there is no sign of what the main political parties actually intend to do once the dust settles after July 25.

This lapse "exposes [the parties'] non-seriousness" for the challenges facing the nation and how to address them, writes Amir Wasim.

A party manifesto is considered the heart of an election campaign, a published declaration of the "intentions, views and vision" about national issues and an expression of motives and targets they plan to achieve after assuming power.

In established democracies, the party manifesto is considered to be the most important part of an election campaign as it is through this document that political parties give their viewpoint on important national issues and announce a strategy to deal with challenges.

So far, MMA is the only political force to have announced its manifesto.

PPP says its document is at the printer, PTI says it’ll release one in the first week of July, and no word about PML-N’s so far.
