ISLAMABAD: Journalist and human rights activist Marvi Sirmed’s house was burgled on Thursday and culprits took away travel documents and electronic devices, it has been learnt.

Speaking to Dawn, her husband Sirmed Manzoor stated that it was the second incident of the kind at their residence since 2010.

The break-in happened when the family was away to celebrate Eid in Lahore, said Mr Manzoor. They learned about the incident upon returning home on Thursday night as they found two windows broken and a door opened, he added.

“I immediately called Rescue-15 and reported the incident,” he said, adding that the Bharakhu area police promptly responded to his complaint and came over to the house and examined it.

The house was ransacked, doors of wardrobes opened and household articles scattered all over the floor, Mr Manzoor said, adding that devices, including laptop and mobiles, travel documents and a few gold ornaments were stolen in the burglary.

“We are confused over the incident as it has happened for the second time during the last eight years,” he said.

“The two laptops that were stolen belong to my daughter and me,” he said, fearing that their personal data could be compromised.

Mr Manzoor would not speculate who was behind the break-in, but said he wanted to know and have the matter resolved.

According to him, laptops worth Rs60,000, two cameras worth Rs60,000 and gold ornaments worth Rs130,000 were taken away by the culprits.

Earlier in 2010, a similar burglary took place at their house when the family was residing in F-11 area, he said, adding that the culprits had stolen laptops, mobiles, computer hardware and travel documents.
