KARACHI, May 30: A Korangi road has been blocked by a newly-developed park, the Sindh High Court nazir said in his report on Monday. Nazir Moinuddin Ahmed said he inspected the site as directed by a division bench of the high court and found access to a number of houses and quarters in ‘T’ Area, Sector 41-A, Korangi-2, blocked by the newly-developed park as alleged by several residents of the area.
The petitioners said the city district government, the town nazim of Korangi and the nazim of union council-4, Mustafa Taj Colony, Korangi, were responsible for creating avoidable obstruction.
The UC nazim, Dr Shafqatullah, said in his reply that the ‘the construction of the park was carried out by the town administration on his proposal’ at a ‘huge cost’. The restoration of the road could also be undertaken by the town nazim as he had no funds at his disposal.
FISHING CONTRACTS: The Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum has requested the Sindh High Court chief justice to take suo motu notice of the ‘contract system’ imposed by the provincial government on inland fisheries and creeks.
It said the fishermen being poor could not afford to acquire professional legal services and a suo motu notice alone could safeguard their fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
DEMOLITION ORDERED: The Sindh High Court on Monday directed the Karachi Building Control Authority to completely demolish unauthorized construction in survey No 713 Jaffar-i-Tayyar Cooperative Housing Society in Malir and submit report, adds PPI.
The SHC’s division bench comprising Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany and Justice Azizullah M. Memon was hearing an application of the Jaffar-i-Tayyar Cooperative Housing Society seeking demolition of unauthorized construction in the society.
The nazir, appointed to inspect the demolition work, on Monday submitted its report.
The report stated some of the houses were found demolished completely and some were damaged and were in inhabitable condition. The report stated that five houses were found intact and occupied.
The petitioner’s counsel Munawar Sultana submitted that as per nazir’s report the unauthorized constructions were not completely demolished and prayed the court to order the KBCA to completely demolish the same.
Advocate Nasarullah Siddiqui representing respondent Syed Nazir Haider told the court that his client approached the KBCA for regularization of five houses. The court directed the KBCA counsel to consider the matter regarding regularization and act in accordance with law.
