KARACHI, May 30: Pumping of water to various localities was badly affected on Tuesday by a series of power breakdowns at different pumping stations. The localities which suffered most included different blocks of North Nazimabad, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Pak Colony, Gulbahar, Aurangabad, Khamosh Colony, Asifabad, Jalalabad and various sectors of Orangi Town.

Sources in the KWSB said that some of the pumping stations which experienced power failures were those located in Sakhi Hassan, Aurangabad, Zia Colony, 9th-Mile Karsaz and Dumloty.

The sources said that though the duration of breakdowns at most stations on Tuesday ranged between 30 and 90 minutes, the Sakhi Hassan station remained without power thrice and Aurangabad station twice.

Asked about the impact of the lapse, they replied that the affected localities might continue to be deprived of water for two days.

PROTEST: Residents of water-starved localities in Malir on Tuesday staged a protest demo in front of KWSB MD’s office located near Karsaz.

The protesters, who had travelled to the office in buses, were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the KWSB.

They said their areas were facing an acute shortage of water for more than two weeks but the Board officials had, so far, failed to take remedial measures despite a number of complaints having been lodged with them.

Complaints of water shortage were also received from Mithadar, Kharadar, Manzoor Colony, Mehmoodabad, Defence View, Gizri and Clifton.
