HARIPUR: The police have arrested a dental surgeon on suspicion of being involved in the murder of his wife, a gynaecologist, officials said on Wednesday.

“We have arrested Dr Tariq Sadiq, the husband of Dr Shaista Tariq, who was found murdered in her office of a private hospital on the night of June 9,” Sub-Inspector Nek Mohammad Khan, the investigation officer, told Dawn.

He claimed that the police had recovered a 30-bore pistol from the custody of Dr Tariq, which was allegedly used in the murder of his wife.

The police official said Dr Tariq had been on physical remand for three days and would be produced before the court of area magistrate on Thursday (today) to record his statement in the murder case.

According to the Haripur city police, Dr Shaista, the owner of a private hospital, was found lying in a pool of blood by the hospital staff when they reached there after hearing gunshots in her office. Meanwhile, while lodging FIR, Ehtesham Sadiq, the son of the slain doctor, did not nominate his father in the murder case.
