PESHAWAR, May 28: NWFP Governor Khalil-ur-Rehman has urged the tribesmen of North Waziristan agency to cooperate with the government in dealing with the issue of foreign terrorists. He said it should be their common concern to prevent the area from being misused by foreign elements.

Providing shelter to the foreign intruders in the territory was against the national interest, he said while addressing a big representative tribal jirga of Uthmanzai Wazir and Daur tribes of North Waziristan agency at Miranshah on Saturday.

Referring to the incident of killing of tribesmen of North Waziristan across the border, he urged the tribesmen to advise youngsters to avoid crossing the border and acting against the interest of the neighbouring country.

Current situation could benefit as well as damage them, he said and elaborated that the tribesmen could benefit by asking the federal government and the donors to fund the areas for development.

However, if they continued cooperation with the unwanted elements, they would lose this opportunity.

Earlier, a tribal elder Laiq Shah Darpa Khel in his address of welcome supported the internal and foreign policies of President General Pervez Musharraf and assured every support to the governor in maintaining peaceful atmosphere in the agency.

Federal Minister Malik Ajmal Khan, Senator Mateen Shah, MNA Maulana Nek Zaman, Principal Secretary to Governor Asad Munir and the agency Political Agent Tariq Hayat Khan were present on the occasion.

FRONTIER CORPS: NWFP Governor Khalil-ur-Rehman has said that the role and responsibilities of the Frontier Corps have increased manifold in the changed situation and it has to serve on many fronts.

Newly trained manpower inducted in the FC after passing through extensive training would make the force more capable to deliver with traditional valour and bravery, he added.

He was speaking at the Frontier Corps passing out parade at the Mir Ali training camp in North Waziristan Agency on Saturday.

The governor reminded the force that at the crucial juncture of their history and in the backdrop of the changed scenario, the force had to equip itself with professional competence and ability.

The history of the FC, he added, was full of marvellous achievements which are being appreciated within and outside the country.

In the current situation at the western borders, the FC had accepted the challenge with responsibility and commitment and was busy in flushing the unwanted and anti-Pakistan elements of out of the area, the governor said.

He advised the new entrants to the force to uphold the traditions of their seniors and bring more laurels to the force by committing themselves to its motto which was security of the country and safety of the nation.

He congratulated the passed out recruits, saying that they had completed the initial stage with success but they were entering the force to practically prove their worth. He expressed the hope that they would perform their duties with commitment to the cause of the country and the nation.

The governor appreciated the decision of establishment of the Mir Ali training academy, saying that it was a right decision at a right time.

The academy, he added, would go a long way in the character building and professional training of the FC recruits.

Later smart contingents of the force presented a march past and the governor took the salute of the parade.

He also distributed prizes and awards among the jawans who had shown distinctions in different fields during the training period.
