KARACHI: District East Colours overcome district Central Colours 6-5 in the Olympian Mansoor Ahmed Inter-district five-a-side hockey league which got underway at the KHA Sports Complex on Thursday.

Fazeel, Zuhaib and Imran scored a brace apiece for the winners while Hammad Ali (2), Zunair, Hammad and Shahbaz, one each, earned the scoring honours for the losers.

Earlier, the opening match between district Korangi Colours and district Central Whites ended in a seven-all stalemate.

Junaid Iqbal, Hammad and Shujat slammed two goals each while Ali Iqbal netted one for Korangi Colours.

Noman shone for the district Central Whites with a tally of five goals while Salman added two.

Perveen Akhtar, mother of the deceased Olympian accompanied by her daughtrer Sumaira Shahbaz, graced the opening ceremony. Also present on the occasion among others were wife of legendary Munawwar-uz-Zaman, Tehseen Munawwar, former Olympian Hanif Khan and ex-international Jamil Ahmed Khan.

Six teams — two from each district of the city, are taking part in the event which concludes on June seven.
