QUETTA: Polio virus has been detected in an 18-month-old girl, making it the second such case this year. Both the cases have been found in the Duki district of Balochistan.

An official of the provincial health department confirmed the new case on Tuesday and said one Farzana, daughter of Noor Mohammad, was diagnosed with polio in the Viyala area of the district.

In April, a three-year-old boy, Safdar Baloch, was found to be inflicted with the virus in a village of the same district, the official added. This year two polio cases have been detected in the country, both of them in Balochistan. Last year a total of eight cases were identified across the country.
