BEIJING, May 27: The international conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) held in Seoul has endorsed President Pervez Musharraf’s vision and campaign for enlightened moderation, said Secretary General Pakistan Muslim League Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed here Friday.

Talking to APP at Beijing International Airport on his way back home after attending the conference, he said the representatives of political parties from 37 Asian countries adopted a declaration backing Pakistan’s efforts to curb terrorism and extremism. They also supported Pakistan’s plea that the international community should also find ways and means to overcome the root-cause of terrorism.

They also lauded Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace and stability in the South Asia and expressed hope that the ongoing dialogue between Pakistan and India would be productive in resolving their outstanding disputes.

Mushahid, who is a member of the standing committee of the ICAPP, said it was a unique group working together to achieve common objectives in various fields. He said Pakistan had also offered to host annual summit of ICAPP in 2008.

The ICAPP, he said, also helped develop good working relations with the Chinese Communist Party and leaders of other political parties attending the conference, including Bath Party of South Korea.

The conference focused on promoting Asian cooperation to boost mutual trust. It also considered various proposals for strengthening democratic system in their respective countries.

To a question about Sino-Pak ties, Mushahid said their strategic partnership had been growing well over the years. He thanked the Chinese leadership for their support to Pakistan for joining the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

He said Pakistan’s participation in SCO would open new avenues of cooperation with China, Russia and Central Asian States to address their common security concerns and undertake joint ventures in the economic sector. Pakistan was looking forward to play more active role in the regional organizations for peace and development, he added.—APP
