KARACHI, May 27: Residents of the 6th Zam Zama Commercial Lane, Defence Housing Authority, Karachi, has drawn the attention of the concerned authorities towards unlawful functioning of an industrial unit in their vicinity. According to the area residents this unit is causing immense inconvenience to in context of environmental degradation and direct repercussions on their health.

They have particularly appealed to the Defence Housing Authority administrator to take immediate stock of the fact that despite being residential cum commercial area the industrial unit “Horizon Graphics” was operating at the cited site.

Giving details of their inconvenience, they said smoke-emitting machines remained operational round the clock, creating irritating and painful sound and disturbance.

The continuous restlessness due to noise and air pollution has led to severe health conditions for the inhabitants of the nearby building, the residents said.

According to them, the constant clamour caused by hammering of tools, drilling activities besides continuous heavy machine induced vibrations creating cracks in adjacent buildings as well as at the upper stories of the building in which the very unit operates.

Attention was also drawn towards the fact that the very unit also discharged its wastes on the street due to which pot holes had emerged while, the water containing chemicals were an additional threat to the environment in general and public health in particular.—APP
