KARACHI: While the temperature in the provincial capital dropped by one degree Celsius on Friday as against Thursday’s 39.5°C, the Meteorological department has issued an advisory for the metropolis which is expected to remain in the grip of heatwave for another five to six days.

Responding to Dawn’s queries, a weatherman said the minimum temperature recorded in the city on Friday was 30°C and the level of humidity was 55 per cent in the morning and 56pc in the evening.

He added Karachiites would experience very hot and dry weather on Saturday when the maximum temperature would be around 41°C to 43°C.

The Met department said that the city will experience 40°C to 43°C in the coming week as the relatively cooler sea breeze will remain cut off and the winds from the northwest, bringing in the continental heatwave from Balochistan, will prevail over the city.

Therefore, people are advised to avoid direct contact with the sun, cover their heads while going in the open and wear loose and light coloured clothes.

Hottest place

The weatherman said the mercury reached 44.6°C at the Thar desert town of Chhor on Friday as the continental heatwave engulfed the entire province.

He added that similar weather would prevail all over the province on Saturday.

Some of the high temperatures recorded in other cities on Friday were: Nawabshah and Mithi (44.5°C); Sukkur (43°C); Dadu (42.8°C); Hyderabad and Larkana (42.5°C); Badin, Padidan and Rohri (42°C); Jacobabad (41.5°C) and Thatta (41°C).
