HYDERABAD: Experts at a programme said artificial intelligence (AI) would prevail in each and every part of human life in future because of expeditious AI-based inventions being made all over the world.

They were speaking on Thursday at an event held to mark the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day carrying the theme ‘Enabling the positive use of artificial intelligence for all’. It was organised at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) Jam­shoro.

Highlighting the importance of the day, MUET registrar Prof Dr Abdul Waheed Umrani said that where human beings made full use of artificial intelligence, there were also some disadvantages in this respect. It was up to users of technologies to deploy inventions in a positive or negative way, he said.

He said the day was aimed at disseminating awareness about efficient uses of state-of-the-art technologies.

“A computer would write the best book of the world [by] 2050 instead of a man. Nowadays technology is used from medical services to renting a rickshaw,” said MUET biomedical engineering department chairman Prof Dr Ahsan Ahmed Ursani.

MUET telecommunication department chairman Dr Faisal Kareem Shaikh said artificial intelligence was used from weather forecasts to counting footsteps through mobile phone sets. He said this field was being promoted all over the world as new discoveries were being made.

Dr Sanam Narejo and others also spoke while a large number of students belonging to various departments of the varsity actively attended the event.

100 SU students to be provided training

According a memorandum of understanding (MoU), 100 students of the University of Sindh (SU) would be provided six-month training with stipends by the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NVTTC) under the aegis of Prime Minister’s Youth Development Programme (PYDP).

SU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Fateh Mohammad Burfat and NVTTC director general Abdul Rahim Shaikh signed the MoU in this connection on Thursday.

As per the MoU, 100 SU students would be provided the six-month training in fine arts, professional photography and textile design.

The students completing the training courses would be awarded certificates and they would also be getting monthly stipend of Rs3,000 per month.
