RAWALPINDI: A total of 13 convicted prisoners were shifted to a high security prison from the Central Jail Adiala on Wednesday.

Sources said all the prisoners will complete their sentenced in a high security prison in Sahiwal.

A source said the convicts had been arrested by the Counter Terrorism Department Punjab in connection with processing explosives, but none of them were involved in terrorism cases.

A prison department official said the prisoners were arrested in various parts of the province at different times and later convicted.

Separately, a special security cell will be constituted to inform the district police chief well in time to make security arrangements to avert any untoward incident, after Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal was shot at a corner meeting in Narowal.

In a directive by the regional police officer, district police chiefs and the Rawalpindi city police officer have been told to form special security cells led by experienced officers to inform district police officers will in time to make effective security arrangements to prevent untoward incidents and provide security to public figures.
