Wapda clarifies news report

Published May 26, 2005

LAHORE, May 25: Wapda in a press release has clarified a news item pertaining to the award of contract for the Mangla Dam raising project that was discussed during a meeting of the senate standing committee on water and power. Wapda says the Wapda chairman at no point passed the responsibility for award of the contract to his predecessor.

In fact, he said the contract was awarded to the lowest bidder in line with the established norms and practices during the tenure of the present chairman in June 2004.

During the meeting of the Senate, one of the members did raise certain issues regarding the evaluation procedure adopted for award of the contract. A detailed response to these issues will be submitted by Wapda at the committee’s next meeting expected to be held on June 1, the press release adds.
