NEW DELHI, May 24: The Indian Cabinet Committee on Security met late on Tuesday and cleared the agenda for the India-Pakistan defence secretary-level talks scheduled this week in Islamabad. An eight-member Indian delegation led by Defence Secretary Ajai Vikram Singh will leave on Wednesday for the two-day talks on the Siachen issue under the composite dialogue process going on between the two countries.

The delegation’s arrival will coincide with the presence of the US Assistant Secretary of State for South Asian Affairs Christina Rocca, who will begin her official visit to Pakistan from Wednesday. The talks on Siachen Glacier and other military confidence-building measures are starting in Islamabad on May 26.

The Indian cabinet committee on security, led by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, met at the Operations Room at the Army Headquarters. Informed sources said the ministers were given special presentation by military experts with the help of detailed maps. “We expect some forward movement in the ongoing dialogues on Siachen Glacier,” Press Trust of India quoted officials as saying after the meeting.
