SARGODHA, May 24: Satellite Town police have registered a case against its SHO and nine other policemen for allegedly killing a man in custody and throwing his body in a canal. Reports said Muhammad Saghir, a wheat thrasher dealer of Abdullah Colony had borrowed money from Khalid Saifullah of Niswa Lagan village in Hafizabad. Khalid came to Saghir two weeks ago and demanded the amount. Saghir allegedly handed him over to police, who subjected Khalid to severe torture due to which he died. The police threw his body in canal near Bhera to conceal crime.

Bhera police found the body and declaring it unclaimed buried it. Muhammad Sharif, father of the deceased, visited Sargodha in search of his son and learnt about the body and its burial. He got the body exhumed and recognized it as that of his son. The postmortem revealed the deceased died because of torture.

DIG Fayaz Ahmed Mir, on the request of Khalid’s father, deputed investigation SP Haimd Ullah Khan to conduct a probe into the matter. During preliminary enquiry, it transpired that the SHO, Malik Fareed Ahmed, Additional SHO Muhammad Ramazan, and constables Muhammad Riaz, Dost Muhammad, Razakar Mohiuddin, and Muhammad Saghir, besides five unknown policemen were involved in the killing, and a case under section 302, 201, 148, 149 and 109 PPC was registered on Monday evening against the accused. No arrest has so far been reported.
