BADIN, May 24: Two people died here on Tuesday of gastroenteritis, while numbers of patients suffering from the disease has gone up to 55. The disease is yet to be controlled in Tando Bago, Golarchi, Pangrio, Khudhan and Serani areas besides Badin.

Sources said that health department, Badin, has not taken effective measures to control the disease due to which many patients had approached private instead of government hospitals for treatment.

FISHERMEN: Hundreds of fishermen from Badin, including women and children, observed an eight-hour token hunger strike in front of the local press club against the arrest of Pakistan Fisher Folk’s president and others.

They also demanded an end to the contractual system on fishing in wetland and ponds of the district.

Earlier, they took out a protest rally from the PFF Badin’s office. The rally went through different roads to Badin Press Club and observed the token hunger strike.

Addressing the strikers on the occasion, Chutto Malah, Abdul Ghafoor and others alleged that the provincial government plans to impose contractual system on the sweet waters.

They said that the PFF’s leader were arrested only because they raised their voice against “the cruelties meted out to the fishermen”, adding that they were imprisoned without any justification.—PPI
